H Proper Coffee Roaster is a third wave specialty coffee shop based in Cagayan De Oro City. H Proper Coffee Roaster sources their coffee beans from around the world. They uses coffees from Brazil, Columbia, Ethiopia, Philippines and more.

We tried the second branch of H Proper Coffee Roasters in Ayala Triangle. This branch started its operation in 2024. Actually I had already tried it when they are still operating as a pop up shop.

H Proper Coffee Roasters offers an extensive range of hot and cold coffee based drinks, including frappes and drip coffee.

During my initial visit, I had the opportunity to sample their Iced Espresso Matcha Latte. I liked this drink because, despite being a latte, it had a strong espresso taste.

Recently, we had the opportunity to revisit H Proper Coffee Roasters now in its full operation as both a café and a restaurant. The Ayala Triangle branch has two floors. The interior reminds me of Gatsby - dimly lit and classy. First floor has the counter, pastry section, several tables and a small coffee roasting facility. There are more regular and bar counter tables on the second floor.

Their menu, presented like a magazine, is pretty unique. It features appetizers, salads, pastas, mains, bowl, all day breakfast and desserts. H Proper Coffee Roasters also offers a wide selection of coffee drinks, grouped into classic coffee-based drinks, signature drinks, cocktails and the specialty coffee.

Now for the food, we sampled the French Onion Soup.

We also tried several mains of H Proper Coffee Roasters. The Farmhouse Beef Bowl, which comes with soft-boiled egg, corn and roasted tomatoes.

The French Toast and Fried Chicken, it comes with 3 thick slices of brioche, two large pieces if fried chicken, scrambled eggs and honey for the sauce.

We also tried the Indian Butter Chicken. H Proper Coffee Roasters’ version is much lighter, perfect if you find the spices of Indian Cuisine too strong.

Transitioning to the most important part - Coffee! As a cold coffee drinker, I ordered the Cold Black Brew. It has a light, sweet taste. A refreshing, easy to drink coffee.

We sampled one of their signature drinks, the Banana Turon Latte, inspired by a local street food snack.

To cap it off, I tried the Coffee Rum Old Fashioned under the cocktail selection.

To summarize our experience, H Proper Coffee Roasters is an upscale café and restaurant. The food, coffee and service were all good. The whole experience was enjoyable. On the downside, I find it a bit pricey. Other than that, I do recommend trying H Proper Coffee Roasters if you are looking for quality coffee drinks and food when in Makati.

Recommendations: The Farmhouse Beef Bowl, The French Toasts and Fried Chicken and ofcourse coffee :D
