We're off to another destination, and our good friends at Ubigi let me review their eSIM again, this time in Bangkok, Thailand.
Since I already covered the company behind the eSIM and key features in my first Ubigi Travel eSIM review, this blog focuses more on the actual travel experience and performance in a specific destination. As always, this is an honest review so you can see the actual performance and decide if Ubigi Travel eSIM is worth using for your trip to Bangkok.
One important thing to remember is that your travel experience starts before your trip. Planning ahead can make a huge difference. Ubigi makes this part easy. You can purchase your data plan up to 6 months in advance. So you’re already set even before you leave home.
I really appreciate the hassle-free connectivity feature of Ubigi. The data plan only starts once it connects to a local network at your destination. So as soon as you land in Bangkok, you are automatically connected. No need to line up at the airport or look for a SIM card store. Tip: Make sure Data Roaming for the Ubigi eSIM is enabled.
The Ubigi App is useful during the trip as it lets you track your data usage in real-time. You can also perform a top-up, if needed or buy a new plan. Ubigi allows users to top up even without remaining data via their app, an important feature when you are running low on the data plan and can’t connect to Wi-Fi.
In Thailand, Ubigi uses the following local carriers: AIS and True Move, which upon a quick search, both are known as top telco providers in the country.
Since Ubigi is a mobile virtual network operator, it gives you direct access to strong local networks, which helps ensure stable and reliable connectivity throughout your trip. The image below shows the performance comparison of Ubigi eSIM (left) vs pocket Wi-Fi (right).
Ubigi eSIM Speed Test Results in Bangkok:
Siam Paragon: Download speed: 214.6 Mbps, Upload speed: 29 Mbps.
Chao Phraya River (while cruising): Download speed: 170.2 Mbps, Upload speed: 50.8 Mbps
Emsphere Food court: Download speed: 5.69 Mbps, Upload speed: 4.11Mbps. This was unusual in my experience as most of my speeds were consistently above 100 Mbps and we are in the city center, so this was a rare dip 😅
Lak Si (outside the city center): Download speed: 199.7 Mbps, Upload speed: 46.1 Mbps
